Day 28: Stonehenge

If the bunch of stones we were visiting was not called Stonehenge, the journey there would have been very very not worth it~ As it happens, we were visiting the famous stonehenge, one of the world's biggest mysteries, on par with the Bermuda Triangle, so can't complain, can I? hehe..

Woke up 5 something, cos we had to catch the 6.30am coach from our hostel, the 6.30am coach that arrived late and wasted 15 minutes of my bedtime.. Hmph.. Then it was a long.. long.. almost 5 hour journey to the site near Salisbury.. As usual, the locals here turn out in full force to support their culture and heritage, so we were stuck in a traffic jam for almost an hour just as we were arriving..

Outside Atlantic Point (where I stay) at 6.30am.. Yep, sunny already so early in the morning..

Countryside as seen from my very cramped seat >.<

Finally~

Taken at the parking lot~

Some funny people doing funny stuff..

Before going in, everyone gets a handset that you can use to listen to explanations about the different parts of the stone circle.. very fun..

Bumped into friends from sheffield again..

And then we are in:

So many people are there to look at a bunch of stones, its incredible..

This is my favourite shot of stonehenge.. The puff of cloud on top fits so nicely :)

This is special cos the tall stone in the middle has a little point on top, its used like a jigsaw piece, to fit another stone on top..

Close up

Some of the horizontal stones on top have fallen off, so its not a complete circle anymore..

According to the explanation, tourists used to bring hammers to chip off a part of the stones to bring home as keepsakes, so now the area is roped off, and we can only look at it from afar.. >.<>

The wind was super super strong that day, or maybe its always that windy down at mysterious stonehenge, I wouldnt know.. :D

View from our picnic spot.. pretty..

Lots more pics after lunch, like I said, this is only a very small portion of the photos, haha..Don't want to bore my readers to death.. :D

I am so obviously squinting at the glare here.. >.<

Whats so special about this rock?! Well, its called the heel stone, which was supposedly thrown by the devil himself, is supposed to have hit the heel of some holy person, thats why it's named as the heel stone..

Before leaving..

Quite an interesting place to go to, but if you're not interested in mysteries, history or culture and all that, then you may beg to differ.. One complaint tho, the things at the souvenir store are so so expensive! Gah! but I did get something... :) After Stonehenge, we headed off to the nearby town of Salisbury, about half an hour's distance.. To be continued~
